"Obsessive Repetition"

A Solo Exhibition held in the UAF Art Gallery from April 3 - 14, 2023.

Showcasing a mixture of ink illustrations and soft-sculptures focusing on animal forms, repetition of mark-making, and spiritual reclamation through repetition.

Artist Statement:

This Show: “Obsessive Repetitions” explores shifts in spiritual narratives and stories. It is a process of reclaiming and expressing my spirituality while taking it back from organized religion and the church. Animal forms and subjects are heavily prevalent as they are what I honor and appreciate every day in my spiritual practice alongside the land we share.

Soft sculptures, each made of mostly recycled materials, are sewn together with a mixture of medical sutures and a traditional whip-stitch. They display a shifted narrative of who and what I worship with their size and presence, along with their deviation from traditional sculptural materials.

Accompanying these sculptures area series of ink drawings. Through them I explore iconography and representation in a more common form, much like the illustrations, paintings, and children’s books I had seen or read as a child, whether at the church, home, school, or other similar spaces.
